Shropshire Olympic Legacy
About the Shropshire Olympic Legacy project
Our first medium sized project supported by the Heritage Lottery fund to was for young people to investigate Shropshire’s Olympic Heritage, working in partnership with Madeley Academy in Telford and William Brookes High School in Much Wenlock. 50 young people undertook various tasks and field visits as well underwent personal development training. This was in order that they may stimulate their knowledge about their local heritage especially the impact that Dr William Penny Brooks had on their community and how he influenced government policies, as well as being the key person behind the development of what is now the modern Olympics. The young people used this inspiring story to develop a national presentation delivered at the Birmingham Hippodrome back in 2011.
