About the Castle Vale Motor Heritage project

Working with 45 young people the project investigated the lasting legacy of industrialisation of the Castle Vale/Castle Bromwich area of Birmingham, from its early development through, wartime production and it’s more recent car production plants. In particular the impact of such developments on how these affected the social, environmental and emotional well being of people living in these areas especially the impacts on young people and their families.

Whilst the majority of the project focused on both its industrial and social developments during the 20th Century, the young people felt it was important to fully understand the historical context of the Castle Vale area. The young people in July 2013, gave a presentation about their learning to audiences at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, guests invited included local MP’s, business leaders and educationalists.

We would like to thank the Heritage Lottery Fund for supporting the project and for providing funding for it.
